1. Overview

ePitika Mon is a free, offline Buddhist scripture reader that provides the complete Pali Tipitaka in the Mon language and script. The app includes all three Pitakas — Vinaya, Sutta, and Abhidhamma — as well as a Glossary of Pali terms.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and your choices regarding that data.

        Key point: All your personal reading data (bookmarks, notes, reading
        progress) is stored exclusively on your device and is never transmitted to any server
        operated by us.

2. Data We Collect

The app itself does not collect or transmit personal data. The table below summarises all data the app works with, its storage location, and whether it ever leaves your device.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

We want to be explicit about what we do not collect:

✅ No account registration or login required
✅ No location data
✅ No camera or microphone access
✅ No contacts or call logs
✅ No analytics or crash-reporting SDKs (Firebase, Sentry, etc.)
✅ No tracking across other apps or websites

4. Local Storage

All user-generated data is persisted using AsyncStorage, a standard key-value store built into React Native that writes data to your device's private app sandbox. This data is:

Accessible only to the ePitika Mon app
Automatically deleted when you uninstall the app
Not backed up to iCloud or Google Drive unless you have enabled "Back up app data" on your device settings and the operating system chooses to include it

All PDF scripture files are bundled inside the app package and are not downloaded from the internet. The app can function fully offline.

5. Third-Party Services

The app integrates with the following third-party service. We do not control its data practices and encourage you to review its privacy policy.

📣 Google AdMob (Mobile Ads SDK)

ePitika Mon shows interstitial advertisements via Google AdMob to support free access to the scriptures. AdMob may collect and use your device's Advertising ID (GAID on Android, IDFA on iOS) and related signals to deliver and measure ads.

You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time via your device settings:
Android: Settings → Privacy → Ads → Opt out of Ads Personalisation
iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Apple Advertising → Turn off Personalized Ads

        Consent: Where required by applicable law (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), Google
        AdMob will display a consent form before showing personalised ads.

6. Children's Privacy

ePitika Mon is a religious and educational reading app intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or a higher age threshold as required by local law).

Because no personal data is collected by us, the app presents minimal privacy risk for younger users. However, the Google AdMob integration may serve ads following Google's own policies. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us and we will take appropriate action.

7. Data Security

Because all user data remains on your device, it is protected by your device's built-in security mechanisms including:

OS-level app sandboxing (your data cannot be read by other apps)
Device encryption (when enabled via PIN, password, or biometrics)
No network transmission of personal data by us

We recommend keeping your device OS up to date and using a device screen lock to protect your data if your device is lost or stolen.

8. Your Rights

Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, most data subject rights (access, rectification, erasure) are exercised directly on your device:

View & export: All your data is readable within the app (bookmarks, notes, reading history).
Delete: You can delete individual bookmarks and notes inside the app. Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data.
Advertising opt-out: See §5 for instructions on opting out of personalised ads in your device settings.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective Date" at the top of this page. For significant changes we will notify users via an in-app notice or an app-store release note.

Continued use of the app after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
